The Philadelphia Phillies organization recently announced that former Phillies first baseman Jim Thome is this year’s Wall of Fame honoree. Thome, who was selected for the honor through fan voting, will be recognized during a ceremony held before the Phillies’ game against the Colorado Rockies on August 12, 2016.
In 391 games with Philadelphia, Thome chalked up 101 home runs and 281 RBIs while maintaining a .591 slugging percentage. During the 2012 season, he became the first player in major league baseball history to hit 13 career walk-off home runs. The left-handed power hitter is also one of only four players to record 100 homers with three different teams.
When he is inducted in August, Thome will become the 38th player to make it to the Phillies Wall of Fame. Other notable names on the Wall include Mike Schmidt, John Kruk, and Curt Schilling.
